Wine: Finding the Perfect Wine for Your Wedding

The most popular wine and cake pairings

Wedding celebrations wouldn’t be complete without the wine. Following the traditionally blueprint of a typical wedding, the bride and groom make a toast with a glass of champagne during their reception. This ritual is still undertaken at most weddings today; and you can see a bottle of wine nestled beside the wedding cake at the centerpiece of the reception table. Because of the popularity of wine and cake pairings, some wineries produced brands that promote this combination. A perfect example of this is Confectioner’s The Sweet Wine Shop where you can find bottles of wine that have been labeled with pictures of cake such as the Angel Cake Sweet Chardonay and the Sweet Symphony Red Wine.

Some people consider pairing wine as an art form because it takes years to understand and know what type of wine works well with different cakes. The wine should complement the taste of the cake – and with so many selections of wine available on the market, this task was made more difficult. Getting the right wine for the occasion is extremely important that’s why it is advisable to do some research on wine and cake pairings.

Based on an article published on GoodLooknOut, there is one rule that many people follow when selecting the ideal wine to have with their cake, and that is that the wine should always be sweeter than the cake. You can base your wine selections on that basic guideline to help you start with your search for the perfect wine for your wedding cake. You can also seek advice from the wine and cake experts of Marks & Spencer so they can limit your choices. Here’s a list of the most popular wine and cake pairings:

Cabernet Sauvignon for Chocolate Cake

According to epicurious, one of the worst food and wine pairings is chocolate cake and champagne. Both wine and cake are sweet so they are trying to overpower each other’s flavor. The Cabernet Sauvignon is a good choice for this kind of cake because of its mild flavor.

Sparkling Wine for Lemon Cake

Since the lemon cake has a hint of sourness to it, then it is easier to find a wine that is sweeter than this. The president of WineTable, Paul Giese, recommends Sparkling Wine for this cake flavor. If you are not a big fan of this wine, you can try the Moscato and Reisling.
